Mind-Controlled Bionic Arm Heading to Market
The bionic arm is making the leap from science fiction to science fact. Named after Star Wars hero Luke Skywalker, the Luke arm, which was funded by DARPA, is hitting the market after nearly a decade in development. This futuristic prosthetic picks up signals from the user’s muscles via electrodes placed on the amputated limb to move more intuitively.
Using Augmented Reality to Prepare for Battle
Pokémon Go isn’t the only example of augmented reality making headlines this week. Researchers at the UK's University of Birmingham have developed an augmented reality application for training army medics to successfully carry out life-critical missions in war zones. The benefits here are high-ranking. In addition to helping medics save more lives by recreating on-the-ground conditions, virtual reality provides a low-cost way to keep up with changing military technologies.
The Dawn of the Planet of the Apps
Well, this puts a whole new spin on Apple TV. The company is working on an unscripted TV series featuring app creators. Called Planet of the Apps, it will follow developers as they receive advice from tech experts, funding from venture capitalists, and promotion in the Apple App Store.
