Wireless Innovation Council (WIC)

Invariably, a new, disruptive technology raises questions and concerns. At the advent of electricity, there were so many fears that parents wouldn't let their children near lights.
Wireless is such a disruptive technology with opportunities and threats. To provide insight and information on this new frontier, Mobiquity has formed the Wireless Innovation Council (WIC). Its purpose is to
- Bring together strategic decision-makers from across key industries to collaborate on identifying wireless-innovation opportunities
- Determine opportunities and threats to current industries and business models posed by emerging wireless technologies and services
- Conduct research in areas of common interest that will develop strategies and stimulate cross-industry collaboration
- Examine how to use wireless to create significant value for participating companies
The current members of the WIC are:
| Loblaws |
LexisNexis / Reed Elsevier |
SUPERVALU | Weight Watchers
| Harley Davidson |
L'Oreal | UnitedHealth Group | Carrier
| Marriott |
Catamaran Rx | Pitney Bowes | Progressive Insurance
| Lockheed Martin | U.S. Navy | NORC | UCB |

Because of limited awareness of emerging wireless technologies, business models and their potential impact, consumers-not businesses-have been the primary beneficiaries to date of wireless innovation. This represents a huge missed opportunity with the potential to threaten businesses' long-term bottom lines. WIC fills an industry void by creating a forum for dialog and collaboration among key players.
“Whether it’s scenario planning, presentations by national or international experts, practical case studies or the informal sharing with WIC partners, this forum not only offers the opportunity to wrestle with the individual wireless issues that matter to us, but also helps broaden and sharpen our vision of how wireless will transform the industry going forward."
White Paper: The Future of Mobile Payments
While there is significant debate about how the mPayments market will evolve and who will emerge as winners and losers, there is little debate that the market will grow quickly. Mobiquity recently conducted a scenario-planning research initiative at the most recent WIC meeting to determine how the future of mPayments might play out. Click here to download the White paper.
