Is the Desktop Computer Headed the Way of the 8-Track?
The use of mobile devices to search the Web has exploded 500 percent in the past two years. And the average use of a smartphone almost tripled in 2011 alone. Mobile data worldwide last year was eight times the total global data in 2000 and projections have mobile Internet usage overtaking that of desktop computers by 2015. Mobile devices allow people to consolidate functions that previously required a variety of products. Almost half of smartphone users are listening to music and visiting social-media sites. The mobile revolution has created a mCommerce marketplace that has the potential for huge growth. Tablet users are also an important aspect of mobile Internet use. Twenty percent of them use their device to shop at least once a week, and 12 percent do so every day. A great infographic from Econsultancy highlights this and much more.
