Are Corporate Mobile Apps Failing Employees?


The BYOD movement has been well-documented: eschewing bulky desktops and antiquated smartphones for the better technology they have at home, employees have profoundly impacted the enterprise by continually using new devices for work. But what about apps? With personal apps like Dropbox and Google Drive further blurring the IT landscape (part of the larger BYOA trend), how are the custom apps developed by enterprises being received by employees? And how do they compare with the everyday apps (Facebook, Twitter, Yelp, etc.) that employees use?

To find out, we went straight to the source. In a study of 1,000 employees at large organizations — the results of which we're publishing today — we found that employees are not impressed with corporate mobile apps. In fact, we found that nearly 60 percent of employees abandon corporate apps when they offer a poor user experience, don't meet their needs, or slow productivity. What do employees do instead? 64 percent of respondents said they "BYOA" and download apps of their choosing from public app stores and use them at work.

Our new report provides fresh insights into how employees feel about the corporate apps they have to use, the actions they take when corporate apps don't meet the mark, and the impact that has on corporate IT.
